The MediaCup software
allows to interconnect different types of backbone networks. On top of the MediaCup system
applications can take profit from the enhanced environment. Two classes of applications
exist:
HotClock
-- > Responsible: Michael Beigl, Holger Krull, Christian Decker
- Is a clock, that shows
the temperature and the status of a MediaCup
- Also beeps to warn you
when the liquid in the cup is too hot
- uses the onhandpc watch
- written as a normal
onhandpc application
- Download: EXF english (29kB), EXF german (29kB)
Ambient Telepresence
-- > Responsible: Michael Beigl
- is build on top of the
MediaCup system
- allows to interconnect
distinct places through ambient events; e.g. it transfers cup events and interprets them
as noise conditions: pull cup down noise, play with cup noise ...
- creates an ambient
feeling of the presence of a distinct person
- needs to be installed at
the intranet on both sides of the presence
- versions for
CAN-backbone or direct IrDA access (through integrated IrDA interface e.g. in a laptop or
PC) available (Win95/98/NT)
- Software: mail
Smart DoorPlate
-- > Responsible: Michael Beigl, Felix Hupfeld
- is build on top of the
MediaCup system
- detects meetings in a
room based on the detected MediaCups in the room
- displays a
"MEETING" text on an LCD display mounted near the door
- LCD display is connected
to a PC host (where the DoorPlate application runs) via serial line
- Uses the G12032 LCD
display from Seetron (Controller, display from
Powertip) or the EA DYN line from Electronic
Assembly
- Needed: Windows95/98/NT,
command line program (can also run as a service)
- Software: ZIP File (41kB)
- picture
Web Visualizer
-- > Responsible: Michael Beigl, Albrecht Schmidt
- visulizes MediaCup condition
(location, state, temperature) to the Web user
- receives UDP packets
with MediaCup state and interprets them
- shows where meetings
happen
- Runs on Windows 95/98/NT
(command line program), runs on 486 or higher
- have a look at our lab (red background behind the MediaCup GIF means cup hot / blue
background means cup cold; if a cup moves, the MediaCup GIFs background is grey, if the
cup stands on the table the background is white)
- Download V0.6 Beta: ZIP (53K)
Intranet Visualizer
-- > Responsible: Albrecht Schmidt
- visulizes MediaCup
condition (location, state, temperature)
- allows for a more
detailed state report containing information that should not be seen outside the lab
- receives UDP packets
with MediaCup state and interprets them
- shows where meetings
happen
- Runs on Windows 95/98/NT
(Screenshot)
- Software: mail
Backbone-IR Network Connector (IrIp R(3))
-- > Responsible: Michael Beigl, Albrecht Schmidt,
Holger Krull,
Albert Krohn
- interconnects a IR
device (e.g. MediaCup) and Backbone networks (e.g. your Ethernet); (MediaCup) packets from
CAN are broadcasted to the subnet and vice versa to be used by applications e.g. the
Visualizer
- Version for Windows
95/98/NT
- receives IR from build
in IrDA compliant module (available in almost all modern Laptops and PCs) or from external
LiteLink modul at 19200 bit/s
- only slow 80486 needed
(e.g. an old PC104 board)
- Download V0.6 Beta
Software (Win95/98/NT): ZIP (49K)
Backbone-CAN Network Connector (CIp R(3))
-- > Responsible: Albrecht
Schmidt, Holger
Krull, Albert Krohn, Michael
Beigl
- interconnects CAN and
Backbone networks (e.g.your Ethernet); (MediaCup) packets from CAN are broadcasted to the
subnet and vice versa to be used by applications e.g. the Visualizer
- Version for Windows
95/98/NT
- receives CAN-Packets
from serial line at 115000
- only slow 80486 needed
(e.g. an old PC104 board)
- Software: mail
